FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

We know bringing a new puppy into your family is an exciting decision, and we’re here to help you feel confident and prepared along the way. We’ve put together answers to some of the questions we receive most often about our puppies, our breeding program, and what to expect when welcoming a Rocky Mountain Yorkie into your family.

If you have additional questions, we’d love to hear from you! We’re always happy to answer calls, texts, or emails and enjoy getting to know the families interested in our puppies.

Are your dogs AKC registered?

Yes. Our breeding program is primarily built around AKC-registered Yorkies, and the majority of our litters are AKC eligible. We also occasionally import purebred Yorkies from established bloodlines in Russia and Poland to introduce unique colors, traits, and genetic diversity into our program.

How do you accept payment?

We offer several convenient payment options for your puppy reservation and final payment. Payments may be made through Venmo, secure credit/debit card payment, check, or cash.

Venmo is our preferred payment method; however, we are happy to provide other options for your convenience. Credit and debit card payments are available through our secure payment processor, and any applicable processing fees may be added to card transactions.

For in-person transactions, we also accept cash payments.

Can I meet with my puppy before it's time to bring them home?

Absolutely! We understand how important it is to feel comfortable and connected with your puppy before bringing them home. Local families are welcome to arrange a time to meet and spend time with their puppy at a public location. We also offer FaceTime/video calls and are happy to send additional photos and videos throughout the process.

For the privacy and security of our family, we do not offer visits at our private residence. We encourage families to follow us on Facebook and Instagram, where we regularly share our puppies, parents, and behind-the-scenes glimpses of life at Rocky Mountain Yorkies.

Can I choose my puppy?

Absolutely! We believe choosing your puppy should be a personal and exciting part of the process. Families are welcome to choose the puppy that feels like the right fit for them.

Because Yorkies are a small breed and each puppy has its own unique appearance and personality, our families often have very specific preferences. Some are looking for a particular adult size, facial features, coloring, or overall look, while others simply fall in love with a particular puppy.

We do not use formal temperament testing as part of our puppy selection process. Instead, we spend time raising, handling, and observing our puppies as they grow, allowing their individual personalities and characteristics to develop naturally.

Our goal is to give each family the opportunity to choose the puppy they feel most connected to, while providing honest information about each puppy's size, appearance, and developing personality.

Do you breed different colors and sizes?

Yes! One of the things we love about our Yorkies is the beautiful variety of sizes, colors, and personalities they can bring to a family.

Our adult breeding dogs range from approximately 3½ to 7 pounds. Our puppies have matured anywhere from about 3½ to 7½ pounds, with 4-5 pounds being the most common adult size we produce.

We currently offer a beautiful variety of colors and patterns, including:

  • Black & Gold
  • Black & Tan
  • Chocolate
  • Chocolate Parti
  • Parti
  • Sable
  • Sable Parti
  • KB Parti

Our litters are thoughtfully planned throughout the year, and we carefully select pairings based on our knowledge of each dog's lineage, characteristics, health information, and the qualities we hope to produce. For established pairings, we have a good understanding of the colors, sizes, and characteristics we may expect, while recognizing that every litter is unique.

Our litter sizes typically range from one to five puppies, with three puppies being the most common.

We are always continuing to learn and improve our breeding program, so the colors and characteristics we offer may expand as our program develops.

Are your puppies socialized?

Absolutely! Socialization is a very important part of raising our puppies, and it is something our entire family enjoys being involved in.

From their earliest days, our puppies are introduced to Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS), which provides gentle exercises and handling designed to help puppies develop confidence and adaptability. We also use Early Scent Introduction (ESI), exposing puppies to a variety of safe scents to encourage curiosity and exploration.

As they grow, our puppies are introduced to a variety of everyday experiences, including different sounds, textures, toys, household activities, and people. They may meet people wearing hats or sunglasses, experience different surfaces and environments, and interact with other puppies when appropriate. They also receive at least one car ride before going home with their new family.

Most importantly, our puppies are raised as part of our family. They are held, cuddled, played with, and handled every day by both adults and children. We spend time sitting with them, playing with them throughout the day, and even enjoying quiet evenings together while they snuggle with us.

Socialization isn't something we simply schedule into our day — it naturally becomes part of our family's routine while we have a litter. We genuinely love this stage of raising our puppies, and we believe the daily interaction, affection, and variety of experiences help give each puppy a wonderful foundation as they transition into their new family.

Do you offer a health guarantee?

Yes, every Rocky Mountain Yorkie puppy comes with a health guarantee.
